The mansion was originally built in 1888, designed by Ernst Ziller (1837- 1923). It is located at the junction of Kifisias Avenue and Emm. Benaki Street. The mansion is listed and it is built in neoclassical style with eclectic decorations referencing fortification elements.
The project’s brief was to turn the old three-story structure into co-working spaces. The goal was to provide optimum functionality for the client’s needs, while preserving the original style and structure of the building.
The first step was to evaluate the current condition of the building.
Externally, the building was in a good condition with a few exceptions due to inadequate maintenance throughout the years. The existing finishes and the stone frames have been restored and painted in the original color. One of the most crucial interventions to the external shell, was the restoration of the terraces and the installation of additional insulation to prevent damages to the wood flooring of the interior.
The interior was, also, in a good condition and the only alterations needed were to refresh, repaint and restore the paintwork, the wood flooring and mosaic flooring. Some of the most prominent features of the building were the details on the facades, the mosaic flooring, the fresco ceilings and the marble fireplaces.
To accommodate the new office spaces, it was necessary to rearrange the layout without alterations to the original walls and doors. These small-scale interventions were designed to be completely reversible, to preserve the integrity of the original structure.
In the underground level, the old plaster boards, covering the walls, were removed to expose the original, natural stone structure. The old features have been repaired and restored.
