Three residencies in Aegina island

location: Aegina, Greece | bua: 850 m² | design: 2019
designed by V. Baskozos architects & associates

The project is a refurbishment of three existing buildings, located on a sloping plot in Aegina. There are three main building volumes, each one hosting an independent residence. The two similar houses on the east end of the plot offer approximately 300 sq. m. of living space and the one the west side 550 sq. m. All of them are oriented to face the sea. The client’s wish was to redesign the existing houses and reconfigure the surrounding area.
The residences follow a similar layout, adjusted to the available space of each house. On the first level, there are mostly personal spaces. Each one consists of three master bedrooms and their private bathrooms, a guest room, a secondary living room and a laundry room. The one, on the west side of the plot, also includes a gym, storage and engine rooms.
The main entrance is through the second level. In this storey, there are the public, quotidian living spaces, such as the living room, the dining area and the kitchen. On the third and final level, there is an extra master bedroom with direct access to the terrace. The outdoor area includes living and dining areas as well as a jacuzzi.
The natural environment was a crucial element into the landscaping design. All the interventions were designed to highlight the existing scenery, but also to create pleasant outdoor spaces with patios, pergolas, planted areas and a playground. Between the two structures, there is a big, communal swimming pool, but in addition, each house has its own private pool.
The exterior is covered by local stone and timber. These earthy toned materials were specifically selected to achieve a natural blend into to the scenery. Glass railings, used on the terraces, were designed to provide an unobstructed view to the natural landscape and the sea.
