In a 1.1050 sq. m. plot in Drossia, the project’s brief called for two detached, identical, residences. The surrounding area’s suburban features include, low-density area, residential buildings of low height and wide tree-covered spaces. A mix of urban elements is incorporated into the natural environment.
At the client’s request and according to the construction requirements, the two houses occupy same-sized areas within the plot. The outdoor spaces are specifically designed to provide relaxation and direct connection to the environment. The goal was to create simple, rectangular, elongated buildings that coexist and harmonize with the terrain and the surroundings.
Each house’s built-up area is 340 sq. m. and consists of three floors and a basement of approximately 140 sq. m. The indoor design layout is quite typical. The living areas, such as the living room, kitchen and study, are located on the ground floor, whereas the four bedrooms are set on the first floor. The second floor consists of a protected open-air space that can be used as a film projection area. The basement includes two parking spaces along with ancillary and MEP facilities. In the outdoor space, paved paths and areas, covered by wooden pergolas, are designed to allow shaded and sheltered relaxing spots.
Sustainability was a key element guiding the designing process. The structures are mostly oriented to the north-south axis to achieve maximum solar gain in the living areas. On the south sides, larger horizontal and vertical openings are arranged in zones, covered with wooden cladding, to protect from direct sunlight exposure. For maximum comfort, the east and west side openings are limited.
